Dear
Members of the Lynnhaven Family:
It should be obvious to anyone who has heard a few of my sermons or read several of my columns in Gabriel's Horn that C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors. I read from one of his many books almost everyday. I am currently re-reading Mere Christianity. In this book, Lewis defines faith as "the art of holding on to things your reason has once accepted, in spite of your changing moods." He contends that our moods will change, whatever view our reason takes. We must work at keeping our Faith alive, Lewis suggests.
Those who have once accepted Christianity should deliberately hold before their minds some of the main doctrines of the Faith each day. That is why daily prayers, Bible reading, reading of other religious literature, and churchgoing are necessary parts of the Christian life.
Lewis contends that we need to be continually reminded of what we believe. Beliefs must be fed if they are to be kept alive. Gardens must be tended, flowers and plants must be watered regularly if they are to remain beautiful. What kind of job are you doing to keep your faith alive? Hoping to see you in Church often.
Your Pastor and friend,
Scottie Griffin
